The first hotel in Halifax was built on the site in 1882 but was destroyed by fi re in
1902. It was rebuilt only to be destroyed by fi re again in 1931. Today’s brick Halifax
Hotel was built in 1932.
The current hotel was built around the home of one of the fi rst settlers, Magnus
Anderssen. It was moved onto this site after the second fi re. The hotel building
includes the original staircase and balcony wrought iron work from the house. It is also believed by locals that the fi rst Constitution of
Australia was penned in one of the rooms upstairs.
The current hotel has recently been renovated with updated amenities. These include a beer garden and children’s playground as well as
a restaurant, which is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Accommodation is also available
