About Eden Hill Bar and Bistro:

The Eden Hill Bar and Bistro began as The Rangeview Hotel in 1973, as a hotel custom-built for the Swan Brewery.

In 2010, a dramatic and significant overhaul of the venue began, including the addition of a huge alfresco beer garden, redesign and refit of the Bar, TAB and Restaurant. The transformation was so dramatic that a complete change of name was needed to better reflect its new style and the fact that this was done to bring it back to being a gathering point for the local community. So the Eden Hill Bar & Bistro was born.

They're not wrong when they say this place has had a significant make over from it's days as the Rangeview. It is now a far cry from what that place used to be like, with a well thought out play area for kids, as well as more than enough TV's to have numerous shows available for those who don't want to socialise. For those that do, there is a nice area out the front to catch a cool breeze and the bar and surrounding area has ample room to fit many people and let them chat over a beer. The pool tables are kept clean, the various tables and stools spread around the area are new and the music is lively without being to loud.

There is a seperate area for dining, though you can still grab a counter meal in the pub or out the front, and the couple of meals I have tried were all fantastic. A medium-rare steak cooked to perfection with a nice red wine jus and mushrooms, a chicken parma and chips or the fettucini carbonara, all have been fantastic.

Waitstaff were all friendly and service timely. Overall, an excellent transformation from a disreputable hive of scum and villiany to modern family friendly dining. I'll certainly continue visiting.

Too often these days we see the renovated pub catering to the young metrosexual crowd with their "zhooshed" hair and infinitely deep wallets. The old haunts seem to be disappearing in favour of these soulless, expensive glitz palaces or festering in their own pits of neglect.

It's great to see at least one pub has bucked that trend. It still feels like an old pub, with bar staff who engage, people who have character. Patrons too. The place smells like a pub instead of a hospital.

And yet it's not one of the old places falling apart around your ears - they've done a great job giving it a new lease on life. The kids area needs special locks to keep the dads away from the collection of old arcade machines. The kitchen is churning out dishes that would look at home in any yuppy cafe. The beer garden is clean, tidy, well shaded and a great place to chill out on a warm day.

The food has been excellent every time I've been there. Try the hot wings, messy and they'll blow your head off but oh so tasty. The steak sandwiches have real steak in them, not the thin strip of leather you get so often these days. The beer is cheap, but the wine list is there for those that do.

I have no idea where the comments on bad service are coming from: I've been treated to a friendly but respectful and attentive treatment from the staff every time I've been there.

It's a special place. So special that I'll take the trip from the other side of Perth if I want to enjoy a pub meal with a few friends in a relaxed, convivial, old school pub atmosphere.

They have the right idea but are failing to deliver a good enough service to make a success of it. I never understood why more establishments never caught on to the childrens play area strategy. Good, or even mediocre childrens entertainment area and the adults will put up with almost anything. This place has got the kids sorted and i mean A1 they love it. That said they are letting themselves down with the service. The food is hit or miss but not really the issue. The big and strangely avoidable problem is the service. They have good management i suspect but too few good waitresses. First of all they need more waiting staff on most nights. Secondly they have a couple of seriously bad waiting staff. Individuals who do not realise that they are there to wait on us and not the other way round. Some of the staff are superb, and truely understand what its all about but a couple of others i have encountered are a serious problem for this otherwise good going business. Please do not let a couple of poor waitresses destroy what is otherwise a good and much needed local business.

I have never had such a bad dining experience. From the minute we got there with 6 adults and 4 children, the service was disgusting. The restaurant was completely under staffed and the staff that were there were not afraid to show they couldn't cope. A so-called manager back chatted and was more than rude! Another "manager" called me a liar to my face and to another member of our party after I complained about the service, which can I say, I am not.

We got there at 5pm and by 7.30 we left in disgust. The only person in the whole place worth anything was the head chef who was the ONLY one to apologise for our experience and go a little way to trying to make it right. I would not go back to this place if it was the last place on earth.
