IT'S been a case of steady as she goes for the folks at the Bluetongue Brewery on the Central Coast.
The Bluetongue range has been slowly building a reputation for some quality beverages, largely through word of mouth but that look set to change following the new $120 brewery coming into production.
That means Bluetongues Premium Lager will become more widely available and for beer drinkers, that’s a good thing.
The Lager has a clean clear light golden colour with an excellent tight white head.
There’s a subtle hop aroma which is enticing rather than being overbearing as some of the more hoppy beers can be.
It has good body and what’s most noticeable is that is smooth, creamy and easy to drink, leaving the palate with a crispness that comes a nicely balanced aftertaste.
At first I thought I might be disappointed with the initial impression that it was light in flavour but you really appreciate the balance after the second mouthful, adding to its sessionability and it is quite moorish.
It’s light in nature and doesn’t sit heavily in the gut which makes it a very social lager and easy to knock a few over, especially with the warmer months coming up.
However it’s no light weight in the alcohol content at 4.9 percent.
I think it would be well-suited to lighter style dishes, seafood, Greek and Mediterranean dishes and even dressed salads where the crispness of the beer helps cleanse the palate.
It would also be right at home at a party or BBQ.
If you ever find yourself saying “I’m flat out like a lizard drinking”, then with a few Bluetongues in the fridge, you mightn’t be on your own.
MY TIP
Serve this up nice a cold and enjoy it as such. It’s a good thirst quencher and a beer to be enjoyed at social occasions. For those who like ‘blonde’ style of beer, this would appeal but it doesn’t try to pitch to those looking fro low carbs due to its creamy full nature.
