Coopers 62

Coopers 62

JUST when you thought you had tried all of the Coopers range of beers and stout, the South Australian brewer comes out with another to tempt the taste buds.

Now there is Coopers 62, a refreshing, clean, crisp pilsner ideal for our warmer climates.

Named after the year which Cooper Family started brewing (and aren’t we glad they did!), the 62 is based on a Bohemian-style pilsner.

It has a light golden colour, clear with no cloudiness and with a good hoppy aroma thanks to the use of Saaz and Hersbucker varieties.

So what does that means to the average beer drinker – well this Coopers is clean and surprisingly light across the palate, considering it is a very full strength drop at 5 percent.

While it is smooth, it leaves you with a refreshing bitterness in its aftertaste which adds to its ‘sessionability’.

Trust me, like all good Coopers drops, the 62 is a pilsner which is very easy to enjoy.

Aimed at the premium beer market and packaged in distinctive plain amber stubbie with 62 embossed in the glass, this is a beer made for summer.

It is a thirst quencher as much as being a beer to enjoy with food.

I would suggest this with perhaps some spicy Asian dishes, a good curry or even a Mexican style meal but it is equally at home as a great accompaniment to any barbeque.

I think it is a beer best enjoyed with friends at the end of the day.

As you would expect from Coopers, it is full of flavour though those who prefer a ‘lighter’ style of beer might find it a bit ‘pronounced’ and being a Coopers brew, make sure you aren’t driving after having a few.

The Coopers 62 is bound to be a favourite number with plenty of beer drinkers this summer.

MY TIP

Coopers 62 is best served nice and cold but not chilled. The stylish stubbie allows you to enjoy it straight out of the bottle though in a tall glass will really allow you to appreciate the colour and aroma. This is a very ‘social’ beer, able to be enjoyed at any time but if you have been out slaving away, this will really hit the spot at the end of the day but make sure you have a few in the fridge.

It’s reasonably priced at $18 per 355ml six pack and is widely available through major retail outlets.

It's sad that Australia's last independent brewery, famous for the excellent Sparkling ale and Stout should but out this tasteless shadow of a Pilsener. No discernible hop aroma, little malt character. Makes Toohey's Extra Dry seem like a premium beer.

Sad sad sad beer.

Say that and you will be lucky to have said the right thing. The secret is to let em think you make home brew, yet don't know how to. I have stopped, more fool me. Have to save up to replace my gear.
The secret. keep a normal mix for the "can I borrow types". Your own brew, make it as per instructions. let it sit, transfer the brew, less the slag in the bottom of the bottle, into another bottle, recap it, let it sit and enjoy a clear better than any brewers beer I have tasted.
