Duff Beer

Duff Beer

FROM previous experiences, I have found that "novelty"' beers tend to have a high joke factor and a low flavour factor, so why should Duff Beer be any different.

It's not the first time I've seen Duff but I thought lawsuits from the people behind The Simpsons had put an end to any future brews.

Hence when I saw the beer in a local pub, I did a double take.

As a fan of The Simpsons, I found it hard to resist buying a six pack.

Mind you, I didn't expect it to be any good but was pleasantly surprised when I finally cracked open one of Homer's favourite brews.

This Duff is brewed in Germany and is a clean, crisp lager, light in nature but with interesting flavour.

It is clear in nature with a good, tight, white head and an aroma which which has hints of malt and citrus which you might expect to find in a pale ale.

It is light in body, but not insipid, and refreshing across the palate, and leaves a slightly sweet aftertaste which isn't sickly.

Duff has a moorish nature to it which makes it extremely sessionable and it's well-suited for the warmer months.

This doesn't sit heavily in the gut and is every easy to drink and at 4.7 per cent, it's not a beer to be taken lightly.

It would go well with seafoods or light dishes such as salads or even with a some Asian dishes such as sweet and sour.

As a barbecue beer, it's a "no brainer" because everyone wants to know what it's like - it's a great conversational beer.

But keep in mind this is a serious German brew which follows the stringent purity laws of that country.

This lager has been around for a long time, longer than the Simpsons and is just as much fun to enjoy.

Now you can genuinely say - "hey, I'm Duff Man!"

MY TIP

Serve cold, and it probably is more fun to enjoy it straight out of the stubbie so people can see what you are drinking. About $17 for a 330ml six-pack, it's average price for an import but the novelty factor is priceless. You could buy some for dad and make his day.
