Lovely
I visited the Commonwealth earlier this year and cannot wait until it reopens post COVID.
A lovely family owned pub, they are family friendly with hard working staff.
After talking to the manager I learnt they operate on very few staff. They work hard to update their menu and speicals regularly. The snittys are freshly crumbed and taste amazing! The chicken strips are to die for! Chicken strips with satay sauce sold me!
I love the history through the pub, photos on their place mats and the old photos in their dining room.
The owner also showed me photos of the Christmas decorations! Crazy! I will definitely be coming back the Christmas season for a look!
Definitely a pub to try!
Not really family friendly
Have eaten about five times in the last three months at the Hotel Commonwealth, each time for a large family gathering but I would have to say the last two times I have not been satisfied with the service. Twice now my meals have not been what I ordered and staff seem very annoyed if you ask for something like the music to be turned down. They also have a toy room which is lovely for young children, especially at christmas time with the amazing decorations, my children are to old for this now but my youngest still enjoys it although tonight she was only in there for a couple of minutes, On leaving a waitress asked me to clean up the toy room I was a bit annoyed as I know my daughter had not made a mess being a responsible parent I make sure my children leave things at other peoples places the way they were before hand, I was actually stunned by this if I wasn't I may have thought to say well no because my kids had not used the playroom I cleaned it up but one thing is for sure we will not be coming again I not only think this was very rude, we spent a lot of money and were treated very poorly I think your employees need to realize if they don't have customers they don't have jobs I have worked in hospitality and know what it's like but I have never treated customers rudely or rolled my eyes no matter how angry I may have felt. We defiantly won't be returning.
