The Woodside Inn was the first Johnston hotel, being built by the family in 1850. Originally of stone construction and single storey, a second storey of brick was added for the Johnstons by Henry Pike - then a carpenter, and later a brewer - in 1880. Like many early hotels, the Woodside served numerous roles; in the early days, the old Onkaparinga Council office was located in the Inn. Today it caters for the local community and the Hills' tourists, but like so many of its kind, its extensive accomodation has become a casualty of modern transport.
