The Sydney Hotel Wangaratta is set on the banks of the Ovens river, at the entrance to the original road bridge across the Ovens carrying travelers between Sydney from Melbourne. A new river crossing was later constructed, and the Sydney Road bridge was later replaced by the current pedestrian bridge, leaving the Sydney Hotel very accessible but away from the main traffic flow.
Enjoy the clean, spacious 1940's building with modern amenities and service. Have a traditional pub meal in our dining room, or alfresco. We are close to the centre of town but with plenty of free parking.
Come for the company, the conversation and a quiet drink, without competition from loud music, poker machines, bingo, pool tables, SKY Channel etc.

Average. . . . . nearly
From the moment I parked out in the car park, all I could smell was the smell of oil from their fryers. After reading the menu, I saw why. Nothing special on the menu, nothing worthy of requiring a qualified Chef. The menu comprised fried foods, mainly chicken schnitzels, parmas and fried fish items. After the meals it felt as if the staff couldn't get us out quick enough. Tables were removed lights were turned off and we were left feeling quite disrespected. From the outside it looks OK, from the inside it consists of two rooms and a total lack of atmosphere. Never again
