LIQUEUR isn’t a word you normally associate with beer.
The best time to enjoy a liqueur is after a meal and the only time I have enjoy a beer after a meal is as a 'cleanser' something to set me up for more drinking later.
However the clever people at Matilda Bay Brewery have though outside the box and delivered a beer which can be totally enjoyed at the end of the meal on Long Shot Coffee Infused Beer.
To it simply, this is a coffee/chocolate dark beer that’s rich and luscious and every tempting.
It is as dark in colour as espresso with a coffee stained head.
The aroma is a dead giveaway for what’s the come, offering up a rich coffee bouquet with hints of chocolate and some subtle fruit elements as well.
This is almost enough for the sense but the best is yet to come.
Long Shot fill the mouth with full bodied flavour and while it might be a little confronting at first, it doesn’t take well long for you to discover the clever nature of this beer.
There’s the richness of coffee, the subtle sweetness of chocolate and the bitterness of a good beer combining to leave you with a 'taste experience'.
This I definitely not a quaffing beer but one to sit and savor - just like you would a good liqueur.
It’s a sipping beer and one which you will hold in your mouth to appreciate what’s on offer.
It’s strong at 6 percent and does sit heavy in the gut but at the end of a meal, it is the prefect finisher.
I would suggest a desert like sticky date pudding or mud cake to compliment this - yes that’s right.
On a cold night, this is an ideal beer.
However it is strictly limited, that is unless we get plenty of people campaigning for it to Matilda Bay.
All I can say is get yourself a few Long Shots and enjoy the indulgence!
MY TIP
Serve Long Shot cold but not chilled and in a small balloon shaped glass to full appreciate the wonderful aroma. It's not a session beer but one for special occasions. At nearly $20 per 330ml four pack, it's not cheap but if you enjoy quality and the fact you only real need on or two at a time, it is a special beer worth the expense.
