Bowen is located on northern end of the Whitsunday Islands 45 minutes north of Airlie Beach. Grandview Backpackers is located in the colonial style 100 year old magnificent Grandview Hotel. (as seen above)
It is just 100 metres from the Beach, Shops, & Olympic Pool,
Bowen still retains the charm of a bye gone era with its wide spacious streets, relaxed atmosphere and complete lack of hustle and bustle found in many other destinations.
Bowen is the oldest town in Nth Queensland and was once a stopover for the flying boats on route to London and passengers spent the night in what is now the Grandview Backpackers. The town still boasts 8 hotels, 2 supermarkets cafes, restaurants and an extensive old style shopping centre.
Bowen is an undiscovered gem with some of the best beaches in the Whitsunday area. Activities include swimming, snorkeling, diving (with some of the best of the beach coral viewing in Australia) and sailing. Fishing from beach, jetty or boat is unsurpassed, which makes Bowen the Ideal place to chill out and escape the tourist hordes.
Bowen is a major employer of backpackers for the harvest season (May / Nov)

meals
Worst balls up I have had in a lomg time--main meals came out after an hour with salads when we had ordered vegies. But we had not received our starters of garlic bread and oysters. When we finially got out mains back the vegies were that under cooked couldn't chew them and husbands steak was burnt and dry not medium rare. Finally my desert came out with a soup spoon to eat it, gave up and left. Wont be back.
