The Guiding Star Hotel was constructed in about 1930, incorporating an earlier building related to the undeveloped village of Brooklyn. Built on a Spanish Mission style, stuccoed, two-storey hotel, with Cordova tiles to a hipped roof and eaves broken by projecting parapets above the two side entries and the main corner entry. The Guiding Star is the last standing Hotel in Brooklyn.
The Guiding Star Hotel Motel is of local historical and architectural significance as a relatively large and elaborate hotel built to serve the arterial traffic of the Geelong Road, and the industrial activities in the Brooklyn area.
The Guiding Star Hotel Motel is a complete venue with the traditional pub grub food, entertainment, accommodation, a Thirsty Camel Bottle Shop and its own Coffee Shop, Brewed Awakening. It caters for the workmanlike crowd, truck drivers, tradies and travellers on their way to Melbourne seeking an affordable, clean and tidy accommodation.
The Motel has been recently renovated. Includes 20 accommodation units with air conditioning, TV with FOXTEL, double glass window, comfortable bed, hot shower, clean Bathroom and plenty of parking space. It is conveniently located close to the Avalon Airport and just 11km from Melbourne CBD.
The point of difference is the Pub next door providing a reasonably priced full bistro menu, cold beer and entertainment. The Bottle Shop and Coffee Shop come in handy for those seeking a bargain. The friendly staff is plus.

Perfect for the tradie
Great pub. Lovely clean motel rooms, located opposite the pub. Great bar meals and cheap! Nice cold beers on tap. Perfect for the tradie working away from home. I have been staying here for over 3 months Monday - Friday and I have enjoyed my stay while working away from home. Staff are friendly and go above and beyond to help myself and my workers. Highly recommended.
Cheers Dave
Manager & cleaning staff disgruntled with my complaint on unhygenic room their cleaner told me to get out. Will add photo
I have stayed on & off for almost 3weeks & have been in three different rooms in which i have had to clean the washroom area including basin mirror & shower, the scum in the shower & marks on shower base all came off with a bit of elbow use, a scrubber & cleaning detergent, when i pulled the bed out the dust on the skirting boards as with the window cill just wiped with a damp cloth. Its only one of the cheapest places to stay in the area but they do employ full-time cleaners whom management need to to train. A woman commented she would be scared to stay at this motel? Mon to Fri most rooms are occupied by Tradesman & they are ALL decent hardworking blokes who are responsible, respectful & will always say Hello. I am in my late 50's & i felt Very safe at this pub , meals are huge & fantastic, the laundry also needs cleaning & unlike other motels you do have to pay to use it. They have foxtel however, the TV loses the signal frequently ; Staff are friendly also. There biggest downfall is the cleanliness of the rooms which is VERY disappointing! No one should have to clean anything in any motel before using it.
