A typical inner city student pub
The thing that I like the most about this pub is the name (though it is not the best name for a pub that I have seen – that would have to go to a pub in London called 'The Hung, Drawn, and Quartered'), but I guess one should not be rating a pub highly simply because of its name (however a cool pub with a cool name just adds a lot more character).
I've been here a couple of times, but everytime I come here it is crowded. This is probably because it is surrounded by the new, post-modern, RMIT building, so I suspect that there is a student magnet somewhere out the back (not that the pub needs a magnet because I suspect that the students would come here anyway). The one time that I did come here was on a Wednesday night, when I had dinner here with a group of friends from Church. As it turns out, it is probably the price of the meals that attracts the students, though most of the meals seem to be hamburgers in one form or another (I had a steak sandwich). Still, they had a steak dish for under $20.00 ($19.90 – but it is still under $20.00), so that is also another bonus.
However, from a quick glance over the internet, it seems that people's gripes come down to the closure of a games room (though they still have gambling facilities available, though no poker machines), and the closure of the beer garden (which is probably why it is impossible to find a free table outside the pub on a Friday night).
