Cascade Stout

Cascade Stout

THE last thing I would have expected to be talking about in summer is stout but I have been pleasantly surprised by the Cascade drop.

Normally, a drink more suited to cooler temperatures, Cascade Stout offers both the
rich, full bodied flavour of stout but without quite the same ‘heaviness’ you might have experienced from more well-known brands like Guinness.

It has that beautiful black appearance with a coffee-coloured head and am appealing roasted barely aroma with just a hint of malt.

Cascade Stout is full of flavour with being confronting.

Some stouts require more than a few mouthfuls to get the palate use to the tart nature of them but this drop is smooth across the palate and leaves you with a subtle bitter aftertaste bordering on a roasted mocha nature.

Being a stout, it is heavier than your regular lagers or ales and at 5.6 percent, it packs a bit of a punch after a couple but it doesn’t make you feel bloated straight away.

In fact, I found it to be a very satisfying drink at the end of a long day, almost a good
night cap.

I wouldn’t say it’s mild but has a great balance flavour-wise and that adds to its
sessionability though it’s not one to sit down in summer and have a session on and expect not to pay for it later.

It would go well with a hearty stew or casserole (in case of a sudden cold snap) but in the warmer weather it would be good to round off a good dark meat roast after a decent red or two.

Cascade has come up with a stout for all seasons – even the festive one!

MY TIP

Serve this up nice and cold, not chilled, especially in summer and it is a drink which is not for the faint hearted or those who don’t like brews offering flavour and body. For those who do, sit back late at night and let the worries of the world drift away. At around $16 per 375ml six pack, it’s also good value.
