THE Kiwis are coming and I’m not just talking about the rugby bro.
Mac’s Brewery is looking to tempt Aussie beer drinkers its range and latest one which I have sampled has been Mac’s Brewery is their Rock Hopper Pilsener.
For a pilsener, this is a very fragrant drop and that is a hint of the flavour in that distinctive Mac’s bottle.
It is a clean, clear beer and the hop inclusion is what gives this pilsener plenty of aromatic flavour, not unlike a pale ale and it comes across the plate very smoothly.
It is a clean, crisp pilsener, with an after taste that has you sucking the insides of your mouth.
Being a pilsener, it isn’t a heavy beer that sits in the stomach which also makes this a very social drop with great sessionability.
It lends itself well to warmer weather but I enjoyed equally at this time of the year.
The bouquet has a slight floral nose but this isn’t sweet nor does it scrimp on the flavour stakes.
At 4.8 percent, it is a full strength beer which would lend itself nicely to white meat dishes, especially chicken or the more delicate seafoods and in summer, this is be great with salad dishes.
The Rock Hopper Pilsener would also find favour with those who are looking for something to quench the thirst but not be overpowered by a robust bitter beer.
For a Kiwi beer, I think I could have quite a few of these bro!
MY TIP
Serve this cold, very cold and in a tall glass to fully appreciate its worth. It is a social beer that would go well at lunchtime or after a hard day’s work (or good round of golf). By itself or with dishes that are too heavy, Mac’s Rock Hopper Pilsener sells for around $17 a 330ml six pack and is available through Fish Liquor or details of where you get Macs can be found through the web by visiting importers www.finewinepartners.com.au
