Cooyar Hotel was originally a single story hotel built in 1903 but was rebuilt into a two storey in 1936 after burning down the previous Christmas Eve. Cooyar Hotel with our sweeping verandas is just 2 hours from both the Sunshine and Gold Coasts and Brisbane. Our “Outback Bar” has seen a great many BBQ, wedding and birthday party, or is the place to have just a great night out!
One of our very own proprietors, Karyn, has won the Leukemia Foundation’s “Ugliest” Barmaid award for Queensland with her tireless efforts to raise money for leukemia. As of September 2013, she has raised $45,000 in the last 3 years, with almost $20,000 of that raised just this year alone! Cooyar is not just famous for our fundraising but also for our annual rodeo, agricultural show, trail bike rides and camp draft. Cooyar may have a small population of about 320 but we have big hearts and are always happy chat, recite poetry or help out. We welcome everyone! It’s got to be the friendliest bar in Australia!
Our “Outback Bar” is fantastic for functions! With a BBQ, bar and a stage for a band, it’s a great venue for all types of weather!
Cooyar Hotel is a fun place that’s full of atmosphere!

Unfriendly and Dirty
The female owner is rude, unfriendly and has no customer service skills especially towards other female customers.
Their dining room is filthy and the decor has been hand picked from the tip.
Paying between $30-$40 a meal, I would expect the meal to be prepared by a Chef however this is not the case, the female owner cooks the meals.
Whilst reluctantly sitting in their dining room with rusted, ripped and dirty table setting we could hear her arguing with her husband whilst preparing our meals. She was very loud and extremely rude to him and did not seem to care that people could hear. I thought this pub was going to be “friendly” as stated on their website…clearly “Not” she was unwelcoming with a sour, bitter attitude and clearly miserable. They have a big, flea ridden dog that looks extremely unwell just laying about inside the hotel especially the dining room. This hotel would have to be the dirtiest hotel that I have ever been too. Hardly anyone goes there and I can totally see why. The female owner needs scrubbing up on skills that pertain to customer service
Hidden gem
Well worth a stop over. Great food reasonably priced with mammoth size servings. Clean and tidy rooms. Welcoming staff. Totally recommend
Cooyar welcome
We had a lovely stay at Cooyar Pub. Great welcome by Karen. Great service & delicious meals. Accommdation great for a country pub that opened in 1901. Bed comfortable with a sensational shower.
Thanks again, we will return Annie & Huntley. :-)

Re: Gavin
Hi, been visiting you in 2004 and 2005.
It was such a great time I had there and living in Namibia it would be nice to stay in touch. Gavin was still the owner at that time but moved away. I lost contact with him. Can you get me his email or get in touch with him to contact me.
