About Central Hotel:

Come and enjoy where the local's still meet!

Built in 1878, the Central Hotel is the oldest pub in Port Douglas.

Come and enjoy where the local's still meet!

Built in 1878, the Central Hotel is the oldest pub in Port Douglas. Originally named the North Australian Hotel, it was damaged in the 1911 cyclone and was rebuilt as the Central Hotel, a two storey structure which still stands today as the very special and unique 'old' part of the pub.

She's a grand, old and much-loved Queenslander well worth a visit, with renovations adding open timber decks, giant sail structures and lush tropical landscaping alongside the 'old' pub.

The Central has three bars available to meet all your needs.

The Central Hotel is an icon of Port Douglas, and is located midway on the Macrossan St shopping area. Since the devastating cyclone in 1911, the hotel has been completely refurbished, remodelled,  and extended, for size this hotel would compare with Sydney or Melbourne. Outside on the  footpath are high tables and chairs, with easy access to a number of alternative drinking and dining area's. The very modern additions include three different "verandah"  dining area's on different levels, serviced by the "Verandah Bar". At ground level there is a huge area under canvas, with plenty of tropical greenery and two large TV screens featuring football of differing genres and movies.. Seating includes large tables with form seats and comfortable lounges with armchairs. The huge wall behind the screens is painted in two contrasting, dark shades and the new bar overlooking and catering for this area, the same, with a batterned bar front in a dark stained wood attractively featured. Beyond the canvas/sails covers is a completely outdoor area, with a lawn and garden. Inside, the famous "Public Bar" is complete with the usual pub entertaiment features, Pokies, pool, darts' internet and a live band.
On offer is a diverse menu, seafood, pasta, king of the grill, mains specials, kid's meals, salad, snacks and breads. We started with warm Garlic Ciabatta, and for mains we ordered Barramundi, wild caught, grilled,  with chips and salad. Also very fresh Garlic Prawns in a creamy white wine sauce, served on a bed of rice with crisp salad. Both meals were very tasty and well prepared. The service was attentive, and prices reasonable. This hotel is extremely popular and we enjoyed our food along with the entertainment provided.
