Many fishing charters operate out of Port MacDonnell and is a popular sport for deep sea fishing. For fishing enthusiasts, a Tuna Competition runs for a week in early May every year with catches of Southern Blue Fin Tuna in excess of 100kg in weight along with other varieties of deep sea fish caught regularly. (Hapuka, Blue Eye, and many varieties of Shark, just to name a few)
