On Ash Wednesday February 1983 the hotel became a refuge for 300+ residents, Volunteer firefighters, rescue workers and animals escaping from the fires, which destroyed the township. Recognition was paid to the then hotel owners and others who were responsible for saving many lives by a visit from the Prince and Princess of Wales on November 2nd, 1985.

Or is it the Macedon Railway Hotel
Maybe it was because I had just been walking for five hours and it had started raining just as I arrived, but this place really didn't seem to be all that great. Sure it was a nice country pub, and there was an uncovered deck outside, but I guess the staff simply did not come across all that well. Mind you, having the name that it does is not surprising since it is across the road from the railway station, but that still didn't raise the pub in my books.
