Founded in the 1890s the Blue Duck was originally called the George Hotel.
"Blue Duck" is a term given to a mine with no gold and when Ararat's original mining boom subsided the owner of the George Hotel referred to the hotel as his Blue Duck. The name stuck and is now a household name in Ararat parts.
Today the Blue Duck is owned and operated by Ilse Marsh and her family. the Blue Duck Hotel is located at 257 Barkly St Ararat.

excellent food and service
we were recommended to eat at the blue duck and we were glad we did there were 4 of us and we all had different dishes and could not fault one of them, the staff were polite and friendly we did not have a booking but we got the best seats in the house in the beer garden excellent value for money thanks for a great night.

terrible
not only did we have to wait for 1 hour for our simple meals, we were served the incorrect meal, with second hand condiments & chips. There was also a lack of professionalism in the staff.
Oh and the food was great -

Blue Duck
Nice warm fireplace. Good beer. Lacks somewhat in hot waitresses.
