A beautiful building for an ordinary pub

Nhill has the distinction of being the town that is around about halfway between Adelaide and Melbourne. When we were young we would stop off here for the night, namely because it is an eight hour drive and my Dad did want a rest. However we never went into the pub when I was young (most likely because that was not really my Dad's scene). Years later we continued to stop off at Nhill and one time I wondered around the town looking at the pubs. I found three – this one, one that had closed, and another. This one was a rather narrow affair with no appreciable beer garden (or any at all), a bar, and a dining room. At least I was able to sit here quietly and have a beer, though there was really no ambience whatsoever.

One of the best experiences shared overall. Its a country pub with a difference. From the meet and greet by the owner and the friendly efficient staff, to the delightfully tasting meals (which were largely proportioned) and the comfortable rooms.
The Hotel and its staff were great in every way. We as a group enjoyed our stay with the promise of future returns, not only for the food, great company and service, but for a few nights away for some quiet reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Beatiful 1840 building, big rooms with ensuites, great food and cold beer. The staff were friendly (obviously backpackers) so were the locals. Say hi to Neville.

I was shocked when i first saw the rooms up inside the hotel. They could easily pass as 4 star rooms, brand new furnishings, the smell of 'new' still in the air, modern. best part was when me and my wife could go down the stairs and have a nice dinner, with a some refreshments afterwards in the bar and easily go back up stairs fulfilled.

We will be coming back for sure!

Tuesday night. Food was stale andtasteless to the point of being battered cardboard, the wine was obviously cheapest cask and also stale (at $5.50 a glass), the waitress was surly to the point of rude (we watched her leave a party at the ordering till waiting for 20 minutes while she did other waitressy things, this with a house of only 7 couples).
$48 for a totally inadequate meal. Goodbye Nhill
