About Meringandan Pub:

ONE of the region’s best not-so-well kept dining secrets, the Meringandan Hotel, is as popular as ever among Toowoomba residents.

The 20-minute drive from Toowoomba was worth it for residents who voted the pub one of their favourite restaurants in The Chronicle’s recent online poll.

WITH a juicy one kilogram steak on the menu, the Meringandan Hotel takes its reputation for serving up the biggest and best pub grub across the Darling Downs seriously.

The mammoth piece of meat takes up an entire plate - with a separate plate just for sides - and is one of the drawcards of the iconic Toowoomba watering hole.

Another is the scenery, with the option of dining in the beer garden next to a paddock of camels, goats and chickens.

Toowoomba’s upmarket dining scene might be expanding but the popularity of the Meringandan Hotel and its generous portions proves there is still a hunger for old-fashioned pub fare.

Heather and Geoffrey Murphy have owned the hotel for 15 years and put its success down to a good honest feed.

I recently moved from Scotland to Austrailia and have heard from people all around Toowoomba and the surrounding towns how amazing the Merrinandan pub is. I finally got to try it out for myself on Friday (20th, july) I came onto this site looking for the pubs phone number and fortunately wasn't deterred by the rediculous review from the person talking about the bus service. Everything about our experience was brilliant, from the friendly man on the phone to the warm goodbye. Our dinners were cooked to perfection, which was particularly impressive as the pub was incredibly busy and our diners were a mixed grill and a beef and reef - many different meats and fish to get right symaltaniously. The service was so efficient and friendly and the prices were great. We have eaten in restaurants all over Europe so feel well qualified to give a big thumbs up and 11 out of 10.

We were left stranded at Meringandan Tavern. The bus driver told us he would return to collect us after he had taken other patrons into town. The "courtesy" bus DID NOT return to collect us. After waiting until 2am, we decided to phone a cab. NOT IMPRESSED WITH THIS SERVICE. As for supporting your local businesses, we WILL NOT be returning to this pub.
