Hahn Harvest

OK, enough of the puns but I was struggling to come up with a clever way of introducing Hahn Harvest Premium Ale.

It’s the latest in the Hahn range and is a beer which I think will find plenty of followers, particular in the younger beer market set and for those who aren’t big fans of bitter ales.

Like other ‘harvest’ drops, this from Hahn is a limited release.

It has a rich copper appearance with a good tight white head but the aroma is really pronounced - rather more subtle malt with a hint of sweet almost toffee notes.

I was expecting a distinctive hop bouquet.

It is very smooth across the palate and again there’s am element of malt but also a touch of sweetness but not so much to be sickly after a few.

There’s no pronounced bitterness in the aftertaste which some might find a bit lacking.

The folks at Hahn describe this as “an introductory beer to the craft market” but I tend to think it’s a social beer for those who aren’t hard core beer drinkers.

The smooth nature and very subtle hint of caramel of this ale will appeal to those who like the ‘flavoured’ beers but at least this is true to being a beer without added lime, lemon or what ever else is being injected into beers these days.

It’s a versatile drop, good with food such as roast, perhaps pork chops, even a meat stew or at a party and it doesn’t sit heavily in the gut so it has decent sessionability.

Hahn Harvest is easy to drink and is full strength at 4.2 per cent though I would say it’s a big thirst quencher on a hot day though at this time of the year, it’s ideal.

It’s an ale which might have few people ‘sitting on the fence’, undecided about whether they like it or not, but if you offered me one, I certainly would knock it back!

MY TIP

Serve this nice and cold but you may find it changes its character slightly as it warms a bit (not that you’d drink it hot!). Being a limited release, it won’t be around for a long time but at $17 per 330ml six pack, it’s definitely worth harvesting at your local bottlo.
