First experience
I live in Port Stephens and just wanted a pub meal so we drove around to find this pub. The variety on the manu was poor, however the meal size was HUGE and it was so good I had to eat it all. I had the snitzel, one of the best snitzels around. However, the bar staff were poor and stood there doing nothing! However, I would definetly go back for another snitzel!
The meals
My elderly mother lives across the road from the General Roberts and, until today, I regularly have taken her there for lunch when I visit her. Today I ordered the steak special, good value for $9.90 except the size of the meal was smaller than entree size,a total of seven french fry style chips on the plate to be exact. We left the hotel and went to West to buy another lunch. Not such good value afterall.
By the time we pay for lunch and have a few drinks we normally spend around $40.00. Not much I suppose but after todays offering I will never eat there again.

I also regularly visit the restaurant with my family and friends, most weeks in fact!! The meals I believe are terrific value, great size and are always beautifully cooked. The management has recently changed hands, as well as the kitchen and we receive great service. Nothing is a problem for the staff and the girls are always willing to assist with a smile. The chefs are wonderful and will always cook a special meal for us, even if its not on the menu!!! The specials and deserts are to die for. We will continue to return and bring as many friends and family along as we can. I suggest you come along too!!!!!!! My congrats to the GR.

I totally agree with the comments that this hotel is rubbish. For such a lovely renovation they could have spent some money on customer relation courses for their staff. We have been there as a family and just the two of us for a drink and everytime either in their restaurant or in the bar the staff are rude and unobliging. I find the food to be overpriced and substandard.
Try another pub because these guys have no idea of service with a smile!
i totally disagree
when was the last time you went into this hotel? i was there the other day and had a wonderful time. the staff in the restaurant were very nice, and the chefs were accommodating to my special needs. i understand that both the hotel and restaurant are under new management so would suggest you give them another go.
