Only ¾ of an hour from the beautiful Barossa Valley, the small town of Mount Mary rests in saltbush & desert country out past the Goyder Line. The country-side is packed with wildlife in its natural habitat, with kangaroos, emus, wombats & wedge-tailed eagles a common sight.
The Historic Mount Mary Hotel was established in 1894, in what was once a thriving town. Now only the hotel remains. The Hotel is packed with memorabilia from by-gone days & now acts as a living museum.
Fantastic for overseas visitors, bring the kids or just escape the rat race. Peace & tranquillity reign supreme.
We offer fantastic country atmosphere, hospitality & service, with quality dining available from Thursday through Sunday Lunch
Lunch 12-2pm
Dinner 6-8pm
Bookings Appreciated & Often Essential.

our visits to Mt Mary Hotel
several times a year we pass through Mt Mary to Morgan and we always make a point of stopping for a beer and a look around.
it is a quiet and lovely spot to unwind.
we never have had a problem with any of the owners, always ready to talk and show us around.
we tell everyone about the pub in the hope they stop and take a look as they pass.
we both love it there and the new owners have made some changes for the better and this only adds to the great outdoor look it has always had.
keep up the good work and see you again as we pass through on our next trip away from home.
The Pub Lives Again
Dropped in this long weekend, the pub was full of people, toasted sandwiches if you didn't want a full meal and service with a smile.
Been going to the pub for many years, even when the had there shows there, and again when it after it re opened with different publicans but stopped going when the last lot took over, swanny you should never get a job in the hospitality industry as you have the manners of a pig.
New publicans, Peter and Tracey you are doing a great job, good to see life back into the place.
Well said!
Well said!
i find it hard to believe
i find it hard to believe how stupid people are i knew neville and sharon (prev owners ) and yes he rode a bike ,what you dont know is that he also is a family man and was a top publican ,yes i ride a bike so what back off the pub was thriving and the old publicans were and are still are great ,cant speak for new owners but the above comments tell the story .tis not up to a publican to differentiate between creeds , open the doors to all , and respect averyone regardless of how they get there ,i probably wont go back and if i do it will be with a load of mates on yes bikes
Welcoming Pub Again
We have been back a few times since the new Owners took over and they are a breath of fresh air Cold Beer, Good Food and Friendly Publicans what a welcome change I hope their stay is a long and Happy one.
New Owners are very friendly and professional.
Went to the Mount Mary pub recently after a 2 year absence because of the last owners and my 6/10/2008 post. The pub was great, as well as the food and the new owners were very friendly and professional. Well worth a visit now and I wish them all the best.
New Owners
Look forward to giving this Hotel another try with the New Owners and wish them all the best just a smile will be an improvement on the last Publicans.

At last its been sold, now I may be able to return for a beer and meal.

top feed and good beer
I have never had a problem at this pub. If your running late then why not ring ahead. not hard!
all i can say is carma. what goes around comes around!
I have never had a problem with the service even with a 15+ booking.
you have to remeber that they are a small operation. and a dam good one at that. so fair go. just think if you are in the same position as them.
so i recommend going but book in and be there on time or before, and take time to look around at the bar have a drink and let the kids play in the games room.
I think they do a great job
I think they do a great job out at Mount Mary.
Considering its location and the difficulty of getting supplies to the site (no thanks for the previous inhabitants of Mount Mary Hotel) people are damn lucky to get the quality of food that you do out there, even if it is for only 3 .5 days a week. If you want something battered and fried 7 days a week, why not drive to Morgan and sample the absolute slop they have there?
And yes, because some people are considerate enough to phone up in advance and book tables, Mount Mary is often booked up a month or two ahead. Remember - the dining room can only hold about 25 people max. So if you and 15 of your mates turn up out of the blue, don't expect to be welcome with open arms if you barge in looking for food!
Sometimes Swannie and Annie can be a little abrupt, yes. But think about it - they live and work there 7 days a week. And I have seen with my own eyes that they have to deal with some downright idiots at times. Who wouldn't get shirty? I think it's well within their rights to not serve you food if they don't want to, after all, the pub needs to be shut and cleaned and restocked sometimes, right?
As for the bike thing - as some of you may recall, the pub used to be frequented by some rather unsavoury motorcycle riding ruffians. I can understand completely why they would be reluctant to have that kind of activity there again. You're not a Rebel biker, you say? Well, there's an old saying that goes along the lines of "once bitten, twice shy".
I wish Swannie and Annie all the best for their future endeavours at Mount Mary :-)
I travel to the Mount Mary
I travel to the Mount Mary area frequently and have always dropped in the pub for a few beers ( with past publicans) but on this occasion I happened to mention that our bike club (touring club) would like to make a run up for a meal as its an ideal location only to be rudely told that they don't want "those type of people " here .
Needless to say that some people have the personality to be publicans and other don't and into the latter fall the current owners
Won't be back until the management changes and it is interesting to note that every time I drive past there are no people or vehicles at the pub.
Positive Feedback
I have to agree with "Are you really sure about that" and that the Mt Mary Hotel is of high standards and totally agree with KTM950. I feel that the anonymous person here and his comments on Total Travel and above are a waste of time as he knows he was in the wrong and has no respect for a very hard working couple striving to make many people have a enjoyable experience. Swanny and Annie will more than make you feel welcome as they have done so many times with us and if at all possible squeeze you in for a meal if they are able - but I strongly recommend bookings as the little pub is a hot dining place and has limited seating. The meals are spectacular - especially the duck YUM YUM! Thanks guys for some great nights (and afternoons).
Happy to provide my name
I stick by my original review, the propritors of the mount mary hotel were totally rude to us when we came for a meal. Glad you enjoyed your visit there but as I replied to pete KTM850, he does not know the experience we received. I am also glad that swanny and annie have lifted their game, they needed to. Please note that the pub is for sale, hope they sell it soon so I can go back.
Are you really sure about that?
I visited the Mount mary Hotel on the weekend I can only say that the place was very clean, the food was good, the beer was fresh & cold and the people were friendly. I have just read the above comments & having once been in the hotel industry I feel I have to inform some of you out there that often hotels of this size and of this type of location have exemption from the service of meals. As long as they are providing a suitable snack menu, they conform with their obligations in the eyes of the law, which these people certainly do. I tend to agree with Pete KTM950 these people do a good job. Cheers Guys
hello all at mount mary especialy janice
I have looked at your web page as advised by my wounderful sis janice. The place looks lovely i drove past it the last time i was over visiting. Janice is always saying how she enjoys working in the pub. I am looking forward to meeting you all when i eventually come back again. love to Janice x
cheers for now.
Mount Mary gets the double-thumbs up.
It's time for another positive comment about the Mount Mary Hotel. Swannie and Annie are great friendly hosts. They have done a fantastic job bringing this place back to life. It is unique, small and intimate and I'm sure they are only too happy to accommodate your business. I believe it's only courtesy to phone ahead if you want to confirm a booking and I think it's lousy to not to phone to advise if there is any change to a booking. If you are a precious 'high maintenance' whining type of person who doesn't like to be told you can't have what you want when you want it, then stay home. I'll be back to the Mount Mary over and over again. They now have 2 great rooms available as well their camping and motorhome parking area out the back. Hospitality is great - food is good - and the beer is cold. See you soon guys.
Keep out of it Pete KTM 950
by all means post a good comment, but keep your thoughts to yourself about things YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT Pete KTM 950
The Pub With No Grub
I find it quite funny reading these comments. Four of my friends and I called through Mt Mary around midday. Looked like a good little spot to pull up for a meal and a few drinks.........We were then told by Swanny that he was booked out till Christmas! WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH! If people do not want to provide the service required by LAW, they should not be in the hospitality industry.
Friendly Mt Mary hotel
We stopped off at the Mt Mary hotel on a discovery tour before bringing overseas relatives for a visit. We found both Swanny and Annie extremely friendly and helpful. Because we told them that we would probably come back with 5 others in November, we were given a business card and asked to phone ahead to book meals (understandable when there are only 2 staff). Annie also gave us some advice on which way to return to give our visitors something to look at.
